PG = Project Groups

For Project Group courses (CMNS 408, 428, 438, 448, 458, 478), students need to figure out a topic related to the appropriate area of CMNS, and find an instructor/prof to supervise and grade their work (usually one medium-length research paper). Some prof’s allow “groups” of one student; others require 3-4 (or more) students to work together. There is a project group form (blue) in the cubby holes outside the General Office (K9671) to be completed (by EACH student in a project group course) and signed by the student and the prof before you submit it to a CMNS Undergrad Advisor for registration. The form is also on the CMNS website: http://www.cmns.sfu.ca/undergraduate/forms/

Honours students must apply for admission to the program by approx. 15 July 2009 with the CMNS Honours Co-ordinator, c/o a CMNS Undergrad Advisor, prior to registration. Students who have completed (or almost completed) CMNS 497-5 must inform an Advisor when they wish to be registered in CMNS 498-10 – it’s NOT an automatic process. Forms here: http://www.cmns.sfu.ca/undergraduate/forms/

Co-op: For further information about the Co-op Program in Communication, contact Marcia Shimizu, Erika Wah or Sangita Mudaliar.

For Directed Study (CMNS 479, 480, 481, 482, 483) courses, students need to figure out a topic related to CMNS, and find an instructor/prof to supervise and grade their work (usually one medium-length research paper). There is a directed study form (light blue) in the cubby holes outside the General Office (K9671) to be completed and signed by the student and the instructor/prof before you submit it to a CMNS Undergrad Advisor for registration. The form is here: http://www.cmns.sfu.ca/undergraduate/forms/.

For Field Placement (CMNS 461 and 489) courses, students need to find a work placement (volunteer or paid) related to CMNS (CMNS 489) or Dialogue (CMNS 461), and find a CMNS prof to supervise and grade their work (usually a work report and/or samples of work completed). There are field placement forms in the cubby holes outside the General Office (K9671) to be completed and signed by the student and the supervising prof before you submit it to a CMNS Undergrad Advisor for registration. The forms are here: http://www.cmns.sfu.ca/undergraduate/forms/.
